Cleveland Lions 2007 Preview
Lions look to return to MCFL Championship
07/03/2007

The Cleveland Lions, coming off a disappointing 8-2-1 record in 2006, will look to right the ship in 2007 and return to the Mid-Continental Football League (MCFL) championship in 2007. The Lions lost 18-14 to the eventual league champions West Michigan Force in last season's semifinal, marking the first time in six years the Lions have not played in the title game. The Lions only other defeat last season also came at the hands of the Force, a 20-17 setback during the regular season.

The Lions will play three pre-season games before tackling a tough MCFL schedule beginning in late July. The team has high hopes and the pieces are in place for another run. Despite the retirement or departure of a few key players, the team returns nearly intact from last season. Leading the way on offense will be all-star running back Chip McClain. The stocky back recorded over 1,000 yards on the season and was named the MCFL Offensive Player of the Year. Fellow 2006 All-Stars Dominique Walker and Mike Parris return at tackle and tight end, respectively. Quarterback Jon Hunek is healthy and will look to return to form from the 2005 season. Offensive lineman Don Cornelius returns from a year hiatus and will solidify the offensive line. The Lions' vaunted defense will again be a force as a contingent of all-star players return, including 2006 Defensive Player of the Year Dave Schierbaum. Joining the outside linebacker is fellow first team selection Tim Weeks at defensive end and a stable of defensive back standouts led by strong safety Jerry Adams. Also, keep an eye out for DE/LB Dwayne LeFall. The former Akron University and CFL standout can take over games.
